Axel Thorenfeldt is a Norwegian watercolor artist whose lifelong connection to the natural world began in the archipelago of Hvaler in southeastern Norway. Largely self-taught, he grew up exploring the coastline with binoculars and sketchbooks in hand, developing an early fascination with the landscapes and wildlife surrounding him. This deep appreciation for nature later guided him toward formal study, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Lund University in Sweden. 

Working primarily in watercolor, Thorenfeldt is known for his detailed and atmospheric depictions of Nordic birdlife and coastal environments. His artwork has been exhibited across Norway, Denmark and Sweden, and his distinctive style reflects both scientific understanding and artistic sensitivity. In 2024, he published his debut book, Kystfugler (Coastal Birds), with Gyldendal in Norway—a richly illustrated exploration of the lives, behaviors and unique characteristics of Nordic coastal birds. His work continues to celebrate the beauty, diversity and fragility of the natural landscapes that shaped his early years.
