Cambodia
Ravynn Karet-Coxen is the founding chairman of the Nginn Karet Foundation for Cambodia, established in 1994, and the visionary behind the dance troupe known as the Sacred Dancers of Angkor. Since 2007, the conservatoire Preah Ream Buppha Devi has been training children between the ages of seven and fourteen in traditional dance—Cambodia’s oldest cultural legacy involving more than 1,500 known hand gestures infused with emotive symbolism—to save the last vestiges of Cambodia’s fragile culture. The Sacred Dancers have kept this tradition alive, bringing the spirit of integrity back to Cambodia with the re-birth of Apsara dance.
