Marianne Vedeler
Professor of Archaeology | Museum of Cultural History
Norway
Marianne Vedeler, DA, is a professor of archaeology at the University of Oslo’s Museum of Cultural History—a position she has held since 2015. Over a span of more than 20 years, she has acquired, in addition to a doctorate in archaeology, extensive knowledge in museum collection management and object analysis. Professor Vedeler has shared her findings in numerous academic publications as well as her own books, including The Oseberg Tapestries and Silk for the Vikings.
Her main research interests are medieval and Viking Age archaeology. And she is especially curious about the basic needs and language of form in material culture. Though she is particularly drawn to those of the Middle Ages, she is also actively engaged in the study of clothing, textiles and accessories tracing back to the Iron Age, as well as food culture.
