Nicolaus Widerberg is a celebrated Norwegian sculptor, painter and graphic artist known for his expressive figurative works in glass, bronze, stone and casted materials. Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek and Egyptian sculpture, his work is rooted in a classical figurative tradition, with a focus on form, balance and the communicative potential of the human body. 

Across his career, Widerberg has become recognized for his depersonalized human figures—heads, bodies and torsos—often represented as timeless beings suspended in a state of stillness. He describes his artistic intention as an effort to “produce strength” and “communicate energy,” giving life to inanimate materials and transforming “something dead” into something that feels alive. His sculptures and graphic works often express presence, mood and the essence of being human. 

Since 1984, Widerberg has held numerous solo exhibitions at both public and private galleries and has participated in major group shows throughout Norway and internationally. His work appears in several public and private collections across Norway, the United States and the United Kingdom. He is the son of renowned Norwegian artist Frans Widerberg and the brother of musician and artist Thomas Widerberg.
