'One Voice' Virtual Choir

Dear Viking Family,

Conductors all over the world are being faced with physical distancing and the challenges it creates to bring our ensembles together. I was inspired to find a unique way to keep my women’s choir, Myriad, singing. After much research, we decided to create a ‘virtual choir’, where each singer records their part individually without hearing or seeing the collective, and the individual videos have then been edited together to create ‘a choir’. The result is extraordinarily touching and achieved the goal of bringing us back together – if only virtually. Myriad is based in Burlington Ontario, Canada and the song we recorded is by Canadian folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys, titled ‘One Voice’. This song is our contribution to spread the message of global unity as we work together to fight COVID-19, and also a precious reminder that even though we are apart, we are together – ‘one people, one voice’. Music heals, and we hope our ‘myriad’ of voices and hearts singing together provide a message of hope in these challenging times.
