Katerina Kantalis

Garden Designer
Australia

Katerina Kantalis is a London-based garden designer known for creating ecologically sustainable outdoor spaces that blend natural materials with contemporary design. Originally from Adelaide, Australia, she is a first-generation Greek-Australian whose upbringing—surrounded by productive gardens, fruit trees and a strong connection to nature—continues to shape her design philosophy.

Before transitioning into garden design, Katerina built a successful career in fundraising and science, completing a PhD in biochemistry. In 2020, she retrained at the British Academy of Garden Design and established her own studio in southeast London in 2021.

Her work focuses on climate-responsive design, drawing inspiration from Mediterranean and Australian landscapes to address the challenges of climate adaptation in the United Kingdom. She incorporates drought-tolerant planting, permeable surfaces and biodiversity-led approaches, creating gardens that are both resilient and visually striking. Her signature style combines rich textures and geometric forms to produce warm, timeless spaces.

Katerina is passionate about encouraging people to reconnect with their outdoor environments. She aims to transform perceptions of gardens from low-maintenance necessities into meaningful, hands-on spaces for learning, growing and enjoying nature. Her projects are highly tailored, with a full-service approach that includes concept design, project management and collaboration with skilled landscapers to deliver bespoke, functional and enduring gardens.

She has been selected as a designer for the “A Little Garden of Shared Knowledge, sponsored by Viking” at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026, further highlighting her growing recognition within the industry.
