As a member of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, Charles Bruce actively supports the expatriate community, including attending Scottish festivals in North America. He is a board member of the Asia Scotland Institute, where he promotes opportunities for trade and investment, particularly in India. Educated at Eton College and the Universities of St. Andrews and Dundee, he is a historian by training, and is involved in cultural heritage programs in the United Kingdom and around the world.
