After earning a degree in sociology from the University of Portsmouth, Ben Gifford transitioned to landscape construction, where he discovered a passion for working outdoors and engaging with gardens. He spent 18 years building gardens before deciding to delve deeper into the design process. To achieve this, he completed a master’s in landscape architecture at the University of Gloucestershire. Following graduation, Mr. Gifford took on the role of senior landscape architect at a garden design firm, working on a diverse range of landscape projects for more than two years. 
 
Currently, Mr. Gifford enjoys a blend of design and construction work through his company, Yardstick Design Ltd, which offers comprehensive design and build services. This dual role allows him to pursue his passion for garden design while remaining hands-on with construction. Mr Gifford’s approach emphasizes reusing materials, sourcing plants and materials locally and creating a natural feel in the finished garden.
