Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in central Tibet was one of the most important teaching universities of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism and the seat of the Panchen Lama. In 1959, following the cultural revolution and the exile to India of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the monastery was re-established in the Tibetan refugee settlement of Bylakuppe in southern India. Tashi Lhunpo Monastery UK Trust was founded in 2003 to support the refugee monastery. The patron of the UK Trust is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Since 2003 monks from the monastery have toured regularly, performing masked dances, delivering workshops and sharing their unique Tibetan culture with audiences across the UK and Europe.
