Curator & Musician | National Museum
Norway

Rolf Yngve Uggen is the Head of Collection Management at Norway’s National Museum in Oslo, where he oversees the care, preservation and accessibility of one of the country’s most significant cultural collections. His work ensures that artworks and artifacts—ranging from ancient objects to contemporary pieces—are managed to the highest international standards, while also being accessible to scholars, the public and future generations.

Rolf has been instrumental in high-profile preservation and digitization projects, including safeguarding Norwegian cultural treasures through advanced archival strategies. One notable initiative was the long-term preservation of digitized artworks—such as masterpieces by Edvard Munch—by storing them in the Arctic World Archive in Svalbard, ensuring their survival for centuries to come.

Outside his museum work, Rolf is also known in Norway’s music scene, having contributed to the country’s cultural life as a musician in the rock band Backstreet Girls. This unique combination of cultural stewardship and artistic creativity reflects his broad commitment to Norway’s heritage in all its forms.
