Merrick Mordal
Merrick Mordal is an accomplished American-Norwegian mountaineer and backcountry skier, currently residing in Tromsø with her husband and two children. Raised in Alaska, she began ice climbing at the age of eight and made history at twelve by becoming the youngest person to summit Denali, North America's highest peak.
Mordal's career in guiding started early, working for her mother's company, Alaska Gourmet Adventures, at fourteen and becoming an assistant guide on Denali by eighteen. She also competed on the US Junior National Snowboard Team, placing third overall at the Junior Worlds in Sapada, Italy.
In 2009, Mordal moved to Norway and has been ski guiding there since 2011. She co-founded Tromsø Ski Guides AS with Lena Dahl and completed her ski guide education via Nortind, becoming a SkiVegleder in 2019. Mordal has achieved numerous first ascents and descents in Alaska and Northern Norway, including the first female winter descent of the north face of Store Blåmann.
Mordal is currently working on her IFMGA certification, making her the first mother in Norway to enroll in this rigorous program. She is sponsored by Norrøna, SGN skis, Furberg snowboards, and Petzl, and continues to inspire with her dedication to the outdoors and her adventurous spirit.
