Kenneth Blom

Contemporary Artist
Norway

Painter Kenneth Blom was born in Roskilde, Denmark, and moved to Norway as a child. Studying at the
Oslo National Academy of the Arts in the early 1990s, Blom first experienced the conflict between
figurative and conceptual art, which has continued to preoccupy him throughout his career. A few years
later, as a student at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, Blom became influenced by American minimalist
artist Dan Flavin and German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys. As a result, Blom’s painting became
increasingly minimalistic, and Blom for a period even abandoned the paintbrush entirely in favor of the
airbrush. In his more recent work, Blom continues the exploration of the possibilities of painting through
distinctive coloring and compositions.
