Iku Nishikawa
A native of Kochi, Japan, Nishikawa Iku is the founder of Kintsugi Oxford, a renowned pottery workshop and repair service provider in Oxford, England. Ms. Iku is an expert in the Japanese art of kintsugi, which involves repairing broken pottery with lacquer and dusted gold, silver or platinum to create something even more beautiful than the original.
At Kintsugi Oxford, she hosts individual and group lessons from her studio and completes kintsugi repairs for private clients. Throughout her career, she has worked with an array of artists, including Lisa Hammond, Bouke de Vries, Kat Wheeler and Claudia Clare. Ms. Iku has also led kintsugi workshops in Japan, Italy and the UK.
Ms. Iku first became attracted to the art of kintsugi while assisting Kyoto lacquerware craftsmen Shimode Muneaki and Sato Takahiko with the delivery of kintsugi workshops at the Ashmolean Museum and the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford.
