Born 28 April 1960 in Oslo with mother from Lom in Gudbrandsdalen and father from Gjemnes on Nordmøre. Grew up in the Grorud Walley, right by Nordmarka. 10 km from Rådhuskaia and 20 km from Nittedal, where the Hagen family comes from. Used the same hiking area for skiing as the Hagen family and at least the downhill Varingskollen in Nittedal, this was also the Olympic downhill in 1952.

Geir is the old Norwegian name of the spear, Magne means to be strong. The god Tor has a belt with the name "Magna", who give him strongness. Geir is a wooden boat builder, specializing in Nordic tradition and Viking shipbuilding. He is one of the founders of the Oseberg Ship project in Tønsberg and was responsible for the famous copy of the Oseberg ship "Saga Oseberg" where he is also one of the captains (“Høvedsmann”).
