Erica Romaniuk is the founder of Step by Step Tours, an independent walking tour company based in Toronto that blends local history, urban design and meaningful human connection. Born and raised in Toronto, Erica originally pursued a career in mechanical engineering after graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University. While she excelled academically and secured a post-graduate role in her field, she found the transition into engineering deeply unsatisfying. 

Her experience prompted a period of personal reflection and therapy, ultimately leading her to reconsider what truly inspired her. Erica realized that her passion lay in storytelling, understanding the built environment and creating shared community-based experiences. Drawing on her earlier work as a student tour guide—and her love of exploring the city through its architecture and history—she founded Step by Step Tours. 

Through her company, Erica now curates thoughtful walking tours that encourage guests to engage with Toronto’s neighborhoods, heritage and public spaces in ways that spark conversation, curiosity and connection. She is a strong advocate for community storytelling and continues to build a platform that brings people together through meaningful, place-driven experiences.
