David Anderson PhD
David L. Anderson, Ph.D., is a senior lecturer in the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School and a professor of history at California State University, Monterey Bay. He was the past president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) and served on the editorial boards of Diplomatic History and the Vietnam Documentation Project of the National Security Archive.
Dr. Anderson’s scholarship includes approximately 85 articles and reviews plus more than 60 conference presentations. He is also the author of 11 books, including The Columbia Guide to the Vietnam War (2002) and The Columbia History of the Vietnam War (2011)—both Choice Outstanding Academic Titles.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Rice University and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Virginia. For his US Army service in the Vietnam War, he received a bronze star.
