Ingrid Røynesdal
A cultural leader, pianist and administrator who has served as Director of Norway’s National Museum since October 2023, Ingrid Røynesdal brings a rare combination of artistic expertise, political insight and executive leadership to one of the largest cultural institutions in the Nordic region.
Before leading the National Museum, Ingrid spent a decade as Managing Director of the Oslo Philharmonic Foundation (2013–2023), where she strengthened the orchestra’s international profile and oversaw major artistic and organizational initiatives. She also served as Director of KODE Art Museums and Composer Homes in Bergen (2011–2013), which encompasses key cultural heritage sites including the homes of Edvard Grieg and Ole Bull.
Trained both as a political scientist and as a professional pianist, Ingrid’s career reflects her ability to bridge the worlds of culture, governance and performance. She has been recognized for her strategic vision, her commitment to public engagement and her ability to steward institutions that safeguard and celebrate Norway’s artistic heritage.
