The Captain's Ram
This picture was taken on a beautiful farm in central Norway that belongs to the family of the captain of the first Viking ocean ship. The ram’s name is Kanelsnurr, which translates as “cinnamon bun” for the shape of his magnificent horns. I was lucky to get just this one frame in which Kanelsnurr paused for a second and looked right at me. Sadly, a couple of years ago, he died of old age after a long retirement. On a working farm he would not normally have survived so long, but the popularity of the photo, which is displayed on the Viking ships, earned him a reprieve. I returned to the farm several times after taking the photo, and I always imagined I could see a little silent “thank you” in Kanelsnurr’s eyes!
